Dyeing with The Knitting Swede

I recently had a blast hanging out with Tanja from The Knitting Swede. She opened up shop last year selling hand dyed yarns and has been designing knitting patterns since 2008. Recently she started dyeing fiber for spinning and she showed me how she does it and let me help out! I made sure to take copious pictures so I could share it.

The starting point. Raw Jacob fiber

This went to soak while we mixed up the dyes.

All ready to be properly diluted

I got to help out with the dilution. My years working on a chemistry degree finally paid off.

Look at all that dye ready to be squirted on to the lovely wool.

Next came the squirting, I mean precision dye application. I helped here as well. I never realized how daunting staring at bare fiber could be, but it all turned out well.

All stripey

Then it got wrapped up in plastic ready to be heated.

Waiting to see what it will become

It got nice and cooked and looked like this.

I love that purple

Now that its all dry it turned out beautifully.
